CareerReady!

CareerReady! is a one-semester certificate program for college students with disabilities, many of whom are the first in their family to attend college. Staying in college, graduating, and improving the prospect of employment are the top goals of this program. Partnering with the City University of New York (CUNY) Accessibility Services offices and CUNY LEADS (Linking Employment, Academics, and Disability Services), IMPACTability supports students at 8 CUNY campuses.

What Sets CareerReady! Apart?
  • Measurable Results: We boost students’ confidence to conduct job searches and prepare students to participate in activities which reduce social isolation. Tangible credentials include a polished resume and certificate of completion.
  • Self-Advocacy: Our Disability Advocacy course empowers students to create a self-advocacy plan which means knowing your skills, advocating for yourself, and taking charge of your career.
  • Professional Mentorship: Students value pairing with a trusted professional with multigenerational workforce experience, versus being matched with a student peer mentor.
  • Co-generational Networking: Integrating students from multiple campuses into one cohort bridges disability communities and enhances networking. Attendees at courses, panels, and graduation span multiple generations.
  • Competitive Scholarships: IMPACTability’s Board is committed to funding annual scholarships.

Disability 4 Impact

Our disability awareness program aims to reduce the stigma often experienced by students living with disabilities, especially on campus and in the workplace.   Students with disabilities are enrolling in college at increasing rates. This under-represented population in higher education faces challenges when entering the workforce, including the lack of job search skills. This interactive program for Mentors and Instructors focuses on disability disclosure, etiquette, and attitudes.
