Disability Unite Festival

IMPACTability was proud to be a partner at the 2024 Disability Unite Festival hosted by Disability Unite and the New York City Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities in Central Park! Team members Madison, Helena, Elaine, and Pam appreciated connecting with fellow disability advocates and sharing our mission to fight for equal access to employment opportunities for college students with disabilities.

Disability Pride Month
July is Disability Pride Month, an important time to honor and celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of each person within the community, including their caretakers. It has been celebrated each year since July 26, 1990, which is the date the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) was passed.  July 26 is National Disability Independence Day. The landmark ADA bill prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities and guarantees their civil right to access education, transportation, employment, and other services. Due to this legislation, people with disabilities are now legally entitled to reasonable accommodations, including at universities and colleges.

Did You Know?
Disability Pride Month has its own pride flag!
It was created to encompass all disabilities and was designed by Ann Magill, a member of the disability community. Each color on this flag represents a different aspect of disability or impairment.
  • Red: physical disabilities
  • Yellow: cognitive and intellectual disabilities
  • White: invisible and un-diagnosed disabilities
  • Blue: mental illness
  • Green: sensory perception disabilities
